Gandhidham : Ahmedabad’s promising paddler and currently India no. 5 in girls U-19 category, Oishiki Joardar has been named in the 10-player Indian table tennis contingent which will take part in the BRICS Table Tennis tournament 2023 to be held in Durban, South Africa from October 18 to 21.
BRICS is an acronym that refers to Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa
and South African government through the National Department of Sport, Arts and Culture in collaboration with the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government will host the 2023 BRICS Games in eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality.
A first-year BBA student of the Chitkara University, Oishiki, will be taking part in the U-19 event which will be held at the UKZN Westville Campus Indoor Hall in Durban.
The 18-year-old, who has played for India before said that she happy for be part of the Indian team again. “Its always a moment of pride to represent our country. And BRICS Games is a prestigious event. We will play against the mighty Chinese paddlers here which is a tough task but will be a good learning curve for us,” Oishiki said.
Oishiki is originally from Bengal but shifted her base to Ahmedabad this year after her father got transferred to Gujarat.
International Umpire Jityang Bhatt of Vadodara will also be part of the Indian delegation as he has been nominated as technical official for the Games.
Gujarat State Table Tennis Association president Shri Pramod Chaudhary extended his best wishes to Oishiki. “Exposure to international tournaments is the best form of preparation for any player. We wish Oishiki bring back laurels for the country,” he said.
