Wagh Bakri Tea Group launches reproductive health and livelihood project

Mumbai: The Wagh Bakri Tea Group, a trusted name in the tea industry for over 132 years, in collaboration with Utkarsh Trust, has launched a transformative initiative aimed at empowering women and adolescent girls through reproductive health awareness and livelihood opportunities.

The initiative, launched at the primary school in Palodia, Ahmedabad, on Wednesday, marks the beginning of a long-term and focused effort to address critical issues of nutrition, menstrual hygiene and women empowerment.

The initiative focuses on two key areas. The first is awareness about nutrition and menstrual hygiene among women and adolescent girls. The second is creating livelihood opportunities by training women in snack-making to help them become financially independent.

The event, graced by Malvi Desai, Director of Wagh Bakri Tea Group, and other eminent guests, featured a gathering of mothers and adolescent girls, who benefited from health check-ups, awareness efforts and nutritional education.

Speaking about the initiative, Ms. Desai said, said, “As a responsible business house, Wagh Bakri Tea Group has always strived to give back to society and create meaningful change. This initiative addresses critical health issues and also equips rural women with the skills to achieve financial independence. We are confident that this initiative will go a long way in empowering women beneficiaries and also inspire other women and young girls to aspire to become financially independent.”

The initiative has been supported by the Wagh Bakri Foundation with a financial contribution of Rs. 3.24 lakh, showcasing its commitment to sustainable community development and driving societal change.

Utkarsh Trust, Wagh Bakri Tea Group’s partner in this intuitive, is actively working for the holistic development of women and children. It works with sections that have not benefitted from development. The trust supports women form self-help groups, works for menstrual health and creates awareness about menstrual hygiene through its booklet ‘Mugdha’.
