● Students performed asanas creating a formation of number 75 to represent the 75th Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations
More than 3300 students and parents from GIIS Ahmedabad joined the world in observing the 8th International Yoga Day 2022 celebration held by Global Indian International School (GIIS), coming together to perform various asanas under the guidance of renowned yoga practitioners.
Enthusiasm, energy, vigour and spirit marked the day, which followed the theme of ‘Yoga for Humanity’ this year, as more than 25 crore people across the world took part in the event for better health.
The yoga enthusiasts in GIIS Ahmedabad, including students and teachers, participated in the event under the tutelage of gurus Dolly Gohel and Jagdish Nagavadiya, who helped them perform various poses aimed at achieving physical fitness and reducing mental stress. Ms Gohel is an International Yoga Expert and Mr Nagavadiya is a certified International Yoga Teacher and Fitness Expert.
During the session, the two experts demonstrated some advanced yoga asanas, as well as spoke to the practitioners about the importance of Yoga and its holistic approach to health and wellbeing. Students were seated in a unique formation depicting the number 75 – a representation of the 75th Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav – during the entire event.
Later, GIIS Principal Mr Caesar D’silva, and Vice-Principal Ms Gayatri Moras presented Tulsi saplings and mementoes to the Yoga gurus as a token of appreciation. Speaking on the occasion, Principal Mr D’silva said: “Yoga is India’s gift to the world. Through Yoga, we have made the world healthier. Yoga is not just a form of physical exercise, but it is a practice that enhances our mental stability as well”. He encouraged students to perform Yoga for half an hour every day at home and check the result for themselves.
International Day of Yoga is the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and was first observed across the world in 2015 after 177 members of the UN General Assembly endorsed the proposal to hold the Yoga Day during summer solstice. Since then, the annual celebration of health every year is marked by various programmes across the world to promote health for all through Yoga.
GIIS campuses in Singapore, Tokyo and Middle East also joined in the Yoga Day event in their respective countries.
