Businessman Afzal Mitha Becomes Malta’s Correspondent Diplomat in India

Nagpur, (Maharashtra), [India], 23rd April, 2025: In a landmark moment for Vidarbha, Mr. Afzal Mitha, Managing Director of Orient Group of Hotels, has been officially appointed as a Correspondent Diplomat of Malta in India by the ​​International Organization for Diplomatic Relations. The prestigious designation was conferred during an official appointment ceremony in Rome, held as part of the Correspondents Diplomatiques annual nominations event from March 26 to March 31, 2025. 

Mr. Afzal Mitha, a renowned figure in the hospitality industry, is the first individual from Vidarbha to receive this distinguished title. This honor follows his 2024 Knighthood from the Maltese Government, recognizing his contributions to diplomacy and international hospitality. The title of Correspondent

Diplomat was officially presented by The General Governor Prof. Dott. Catello Marra. 

The annual nomination event, graced by several prominent international dignitaries, commenced with the arrival of esteemed guests on March 26, followed by a high-profile conference on Artificial Intelligence on March 27. The conference featured insightful discussions by Eng. Marcello Patti, International

Secretary, IODR and Dr. Patrizio Oliva, National Secretary, Italy CD, on the evolving role of AI in modern society. 

Later on, the Correspondent Diplomat 2025 Designation Ceremony took center stage, where newly appointed diplomats, including Mr. Afzal Mitha, were formally inducted. The ceremony was overseen by Governor General Lello Marra., highlighting the significance of this appointment in the realm of global Diplomacy. 

A Welcome Dinner was held on March 28, featuring an exceptional performance by Abba Best and offering a distinguished platform for diplomatic representatives, scholars, and industry leaders to engage in meaningful networking and discussions. On March 29, the International Award 2025. 

(Premio Mediterraneo) was presented to distinguished personalities across fields such as culture, medicine, science, journalism, and the arts. The prestigious gala night, held at an iconic historic venue in Rome, was attended by elite members of the diplomatic corps, business leaders, and cultural icons. 

Adhering to the event’s strict formal dress code, Correspondent Diplomats, including Mr. Afzal Mitha, donned historic ceremonial uniforms, upholding Malta’s rich diplomatic traditions.

Mr. Afzal Mitha’s recognition as a Correspondent Diplomat of Malta in India further cements his role in strengthening international relations and promoting global hospitality. His appointment marks a proud moment for India, showcasing the region’s growing presence in the global diplomatic arena.
