Celebrated artists Ustad Fazal Qureshi, Rahul Deshpande, Gargi Vora, Dilshad Khan, Sridhar Parthasarathy, Navin Sharma, and Nitish Ranadive will perform at Sun Temple in Modhera on Sunday.
Ahmedabad, October 15: Continuing with its tradition of reintroducing historical monuments to a wider audience through music festivals, Crraft of Art, an initiative of noted Bharatanatyam and folk dancer Birwa Qureshi, will host Sun Festival at the Sun Temple in Modhera on Sunday, October 16.
For the past thirteen years, Crraft of Art has taken the monuments closer to people through a rich blend of quality thematic music and display of the monument’s innate craftsmanship, beauty and splendour.
Crraft Of Art’s Sufi, Water, and Goombaj Festivals in Ahmedabad and other places in Gujarat have created a special niche in the minds and hearts of people for the variety and quality of music and also for its concept and idea of linking citizens with the rich heritage of outstanding monuments. In April, Crraft of Art also hosted the Trikaal Festival at the world-famous Ellora Caves.
“We are very pleased to announce Sun Festival at the magnificent and stunning Sun Temple in Modhera. Eminent artists of the country will be performing against this beautiful backdrop of the temple” said Birwa Qureshi, Founder and Artistic Director, Crraft of Art.
Sun Festival will commence with a special performance of Chenda Drummers from Kerala along with Odissi dancers followed by the main concert with performances by celebrated artists such as tabla maestro Ustad Fazal Qureshi, Indian classical music singer and national award winner Rahul Deshpande, noted vocalist Gargi Vora, renowned sarangi player Dilshad Khan from the Sikar Gharana of music, and mridangam genius Sridhar Parthasarathy.
Dholak player Navin Sharma, known for his versatility, and djembe artist Nitish Ranadive, who underwent training at the Ustad Allarakha Institute of Music are also part of the exciting lineup of artists which is sure to leave the audience mesmerised. Theatre veteran Utkarsh Mazumdar will host the show.
Crraft of Art’s celebrating heritage festivals began in 2010 at Sarkhej Roza, as a part of the celebration of the UNESCO designated World Heritage Week. The combined magic of music and monument at 25 highly successful music festivals has attracted eminent architects and art and music lovers from around the country for 13 years in a row. Pairing the charm, grandeur, and elegance of architectural wonders with enchanting music, the festivals have received an overwhelming response from city folks, media, and art lovers.
The Sun Temple at Modhera in the Mehsana district was built nearly 1,000 years ago. The temple’s halls have intricately carved exteriors and pillars. It is a protected monument and is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India.
