Pune, Maharashtra (India): Rotary Club of Pune Baner, Rotaract Club of Pune Baner and Child Welfare Institute, Pune jointly organised a district level Mud Fort building competition at Child Welfare Institute Campus, Aundh. 150 differently abled students from 20 Special Children’s Schools enthusiastically participated in the competition which was organised on the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities. in this activity. Groups of five had made replicas of various forts in Maharashtra. The teachers had assigned the responsibility of different tasks to the children. Some were building the fort while some were doing decorative work around the fort. Some were amazed at the greenery grown by sowing different types of grains. The children were engrossed in building the fort by building steps, towers and entrances. After the fort was built, it was painted and a saffron flag and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on the throne were placed on it. Replicas of horsemen, commanders, mavla, bhaldars, chopdars, and sanai choughadewales made of attractive colored clay were placed on the fort. Art director / Teacher Ganesh Dhalpe and Mahesh Ranjane judged the competition.
First in the deaf category was V. R. Ruia Deaf School and second was Y. M. C. School for the Deaf, first in the mentally challenged category was ZEP Rehabilitation Center, second was Sevadham Wada, first in the self-contained category was Unique School, first in the blind category was Pune Blindschool, Koregaon Park and first in the multi-disabled category was Jagriti Intervida.
On this occasion, the organizer and President of Rotary Club of Pune Baner Priiya Karia, President of Rotaract Club of Pune Baner Srushti Arvandekar, Child Welfare Society Aparna Panse, D G Rtn. Santosh Marathe, Brij Sethi etc. were present.
