Maharashtra Government backed Pro Govinda competition returns for another season

Mumbai, 22nd July, 2024: Pro Govinda 2024, Maharashtra’s premier Dahi Handi competition, is set to return with unmatched excitement and cultural grandeur to the Dahi Handi season. Announced by the Honourable Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to establish Dahi Handi as a legitimate sporting competition in Maharashtra, this event is organized by passionate leaders including MLA Pratap Sarnaik, Chairman & Founder of the Pro Govinda League, Mr Purvesh Pratap Sarnaik, League President & Working President of Yuva Sena (the youth wing of Shiv Sena); Mr Vihang Pratap Sarnaik, Chairman of the T20 League Governing Council; Mr Mazhar Nadiadwala, Managing Director of Dome Entertainment & Director of Cineyug Group of companies; and Mr. Mohomed Morani, Chairman & Director – Dome and Cineyug Group of Companies with the backing of Maharashtra Government.
To further enhance the spirit of this cultural sport, the pre-qualification round is scheduled for the 27th and 28th of July at the esteemed Late Baburao Sarnaik Gymnastic Center in Thane, Maharashtra. This venue will host 32 teams from across the state as they showcase their athletic brilliance and strong teamwork in forming human pyramids to reach and break the Dahi Handi. From this thrilling pre-qualification round, only the best sixteen teams will be selected from this round to participate in the grand main event, which will be held at the Dome SVP Stadium in Worli on 18th August. The main event will adopt an exciting league format this season, with the best 16 teams across Maharashtra competing for the ultimate prize.
The Maharashtra government proudly serves its support for Pro Govinda 2024. This support thereby proves the state’s dedication to fostering traditional festivals and encouraging sporting excellence for cultural prosperity and sporting development in the state of Maharashtra. Pro Govinda 2024 offers substantial prize money to acknowledge the outstanding performances of the participants in the league thereby committing to encourage the players to participate in this sporting excellence.

Mr. Eknath Shinde, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, said: “Dahi Handi embodies the essence of Mahrashtra’s rich traditions, bringing communities together and developing cultural spirit among the citizens. The Pro Govinda competition will help us in elevating this cultural tradition in the state and creating it into a sporting significance to promote the tradition nationwide and encouraging the players for maximum participation in this cultural ritual.”
