Vadodara’s TeamLease Skills University becomes India’s first & only skills univarsity to get NAAC accreditation

TSLU has heavily contributed to addressing the problem of unemployment in Gujarat through its flagship apprenticeship programme

Vadodara: TeamLease Skills University (TLSU), India’s first vocational skills university and the only state private university in Gujarat to offer skills-based education, has added another feather to its cap. The varsity that aims to address the shortage of trained manpower in various industries, recently received NAAC accreditation.

The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accreditation also makes it Vadodara’s first state private university to get the tag.

Within a short duration, TLSU has created a name for itself in skill development and generation of employable youth, across the country.

Established by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 1994, NAAC conducts assessment and accreditation of Higher Educational Institutions (HEI) such as colleges, universities or other recognised institutions to derive an understanding of the ‘Quality Status’ of the institution.

To get a NAAC accreditation, HEIs are evaluated, ranked and rated for their quality standards in terms of educational processes and outcomes, curriculum coverage, teaching-learning processes, faculty, research, infrastructure, learning resources, organisation, governance, financial well being and student services. NAAC accreditation is valid for five years.

TLSU’s Provost, Dr Avani Umatt, said getting NAAC accreditation is no mean feat and requires a university to align with the extensive parameters and quality standards set by the assessing body. “ There is no different yard stick for measuring the progress and rating the quality standard of a skills University , whose the function is to ensure employment to the youth by enhancing employability along side imparting education. TLSU has proved itself with this accreditation. To ensure India’s youth are employable, we offer innovative skill-based education with an aim of Putting India to work.” said Dr Umatt.

She said that as Gujarat makes rapid progress across sectors, the state is attracting new companies and industries and TLSU is also offering work based and work integrated degree programmes for students as well as apprentices to help address the manpower needs of such industries. Such programmes are offered across multiple classrooms, with On-Job-Training being a mandatory classroom ensure that candidates who are apprentices have access to upward mobility by enrolling in a degree apprenticeship programme with multiple entry and exit options. We are working closely with various Sector Skill Councils to roll out Degree Apprenticeship programmes to meet the needs of the industry at various levels.
