AM/NS India observes National Fire Service Day at Hazira

Hazira, Surat: ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) observed the National Fire Service Day on April 14 and organised a host of programmes including a response competition, firefighting completion, and quiz, to enhance fire safety awareness among employees and associates in the week leading up to the National Fire Service Day.

The National Fire Service Day is observed on April 14 in the memory of the brave firefighters who lost their lives fighting a massive fire at Bombay Dockyard in 1944.

In line with this year’s theme of “Learn Fire Safety, Increase Productivity”, a competition on Best Department Contribution Towards Fire Prevention was conducted, which saw the participation of 16 departments of AM/NS India Hazira. The competition was judged by its internal experts.

More than 800 employees and associates from various plants in AM/NS India’s Hazira complex took part in the fire safety quiz. A tabletop scenario-based emergency preparedness and response competition was also organised, in which 90 employees participated.

A total of 85 employees and associates also participated in the scenario-based group practical fire fighting completion, which was judged by fire experts from Reliance Industries, NPTC Kawas, and Adani Ports. An online quiz on fire safety management was also organised as part of the fire safety initiatives, which saw the participation of a record 565 persons.

The winners of various competitions held during the week were given awards. Special appreciation awards were also given to various individuals for their contribution toward emergency preparedness and best fire prevention practices.

A practical firefighting and rescue demonstration was organised by AM/NS India’s Fireteam on April 14 during the commemoration ceremony. It was attended by senior management and over 450 employees and associates.

Speaking on the occasion, Capt. (IN) Sujoy Kumar Ganguli, the Head of Security & Fire at the Hazira complex, spoke about the various initiatives and achievements of the department in the past year and assured that the fire services would strive to maintain zero reportable fire.

In their address, Hitesh Sheth, Head of SMP-1 and Baiju Masrani, Head of SMP-1 lauded the zero fire target achievement and expressed confidence that the complex would achieve another year of zero fire. They also called upon employees and associates to take ownership of safety matters in their respective areas.
