AM/NS India organises sports event to mark Women’s Day

Over 400 women from Hazira and surrounding villages participate in the sports meet

Hazira-Surat, 11 March, 2023: The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) team of ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) organised a sports day on Friday to mark International Women’s Day.

Organised along with the Sports Authority of Gujarat and the District Sports Office, Surat, the sports event at Suvali Beach in Hazira was aimed at raising awareness about the importance of health among women.

More than 400 women from Hazira and the surrounding villages of Mora, Junagam, Vaswa, Rajgiri, Bhatlai, and Damka participated in various sports as a part of the event.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Saroj Kumari was the chief guest at the inauguration of the sports meet. Padma Shri Awardee Ramilaben Gamit, District Senior Sports Coach Chetan Patel, sarpanches of nearby villages, and top officials of AM/NS India also graced the inauguration ceremony. The best performers were awarded prizes and mementoes at the end of the tournament.

“A healthy woman means a healthy family and healthy families mean a healthy society. Women’s health is critical but somehow most women tend to ignore their own health while caring for their families. The sports meet was organised to give the women from Hazira and surrounding villages a chance to pause and think about their own health. I am confident that the sports meet will lead to greater health awareness among women and encourage them to focus on their health,” said Dr. Vikas Yadvendu, Head-CSR at AM/NS India.
