Daniya storms into semis, assures medal in U-11 National TT

Gandhidham, Feb.21: Young Daniya Godil of Gujarat overcame a two-game deficit to thump B Varnica of  Tamil Nadu 3-2 in a thrilling quarterfinal and booked her semifinal berth of the 84th Inter-state Sub Junior and Cadet National TT Championship currently underway in Alappuzha, Kerala.
With this win, the 13th seed ensured Gujarat its first medal of the tournament. Also, this will be her maiden medal at national level.
There was no Monday blues for the 10-year-old Daniya as she kicked-off her campaign in style with a facile 3-0 victory over Ankisha Mishra of UP in the round of 32. The Surat girl, however, was engaged in a close battle with C Ishita of Goa in the pre-quarterfinal before she nailed it 3-2.
In team events, Gujarat’s under-15 girls team missed the chance of a podium finish after they went down 1-3 to Maharashtra in the quarterfinal.
