Gujarat CM Bhupendrabhai Patel visits worst flood-hit Jamnagar district, met people at their homes underwater, asks the administration to remove sludge, carcasses and clear roads

  • 4,760 people in shifted from submerged areas to safer places
  • Power supply hit 84 villages, likely to be fully restored in 53

Gandhinagar, Gujarat: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel today visited the worst flood-affected Jamnagar district after heavy rains lashed the Saurashtra region since last night, met the people at their homes underwater, and asked the district administration to provide all possible assistance.

He visited the flooded Mahaprabhuji locality in Dhunvav Village and Ashirwad Society on Lalpur Road and assured the people in distress that the entire government is with them in this hour of crisis.

Mr. Patel later addressing the officers at the District Collector office said that heavy rains have affected 447 villages in Jamnagar district, while 4,760 people have been shifted to safer places by NDRF, SDRF and Air Force.

Even as rains have affected power supply in 84 villages, he asked the officers to restore supply by the evening.

He said that 46 teams have taken up survey of the damage and, if necessary, more teams could be requisitioned from other districts for removing the sludge, carcasses of cattle and clear the roads blocked. It has already rained about 80 per cent of the season’s total normal rainfall in the Saurashtra region.

Mr. Patel complimented the district administration for spontaneous rescue work, saving lives of the people.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by former Minister from Jamnagar Dharmendrasinh Jadeja, Member of Parliament Poonamben Madam, MLA Raghavji Patel, District Panchayat President DharamashiYaniyara, Jamnagar City Mayor Beenaben Kothari, Chief Secretary Pankaj Kumar, District Collector Saurabh Pardhi, Commissioner Vijay Kharadi, District Development Officer Mihir Patel, among others.
