Khushi, Shlok triumph in State TT Championships 2020

GANDHIDHAM: Khushi Jadav of Bhavnagar and Surat’s Shlok Bajaj were crowned Sub Junior Girls and Boys Champions at the Stiga Cosco Gujarat State Table Tennis Championships 2020 at Gandhidham.
The Second day, the State Championships 2020 organised by Gujarat State Table Tennis Association with support of Kachchh District Table Tennis Association, was filled with some surprising results. Navsari-based Astha Mistry who toppled top seed Rutva Kothari in the second round of Sub Junior Girls’ section played her maiden semifinal in this category. She went down to ultimate winner Khushi Jadav but not before making it to the Gujarat team. Astha gave a good fight during her 7-11 9-11 3-11 8-11 loss.

In the Sub Junior Girls final Khushi Jadav with her aggressive display, especially down the line winners, defeated Mouboni Chatterjee of Ahmedabad 11-6 9-11 11-9 11-7 11-6.
Shlok needed four games to lift the Sub Junior Boys title at the cost of C of Arvalli. Shlok made good use of his height as he covered both sides of the table. Shlok’s clinical finishes – forehand winners – earned him a good number of points during his 11-6 11-5 11-7 11-7 win.
Meanwhile, in the Women’s section on Sunday Kavisha Parekh emerged winner against Divya Gohil in the All-Bhavnagar clash. Interestingly, Divya had beaten Kavisha in the qualifying rounds.
Kavisha got a chance for revenge when an open draw pitted her against Divya in the first round. In a hard fought first round encounter, Kavisha displayed her grit and determination. Throughout the match Kavisha engaged Divya in long rallies and compelled the seasoned paddler to commit mistakes. Divya managed to win two games but in the gruelling five-game contest it was Kavisha who had a last laugh with a 11-9 11-8 5-11 9-11 11-6 win.
Men’s and Women’s matches were in progress with finals scheduled late in the evening.
