Surat witnessed a groundbreaking event on May 3rd, as Roongta Cinemas, a pioneer in redefining the cinematic experience, hosted a Celebrity Chef Live Cooking Event that left audiences not only entertained but also inspired by food, culture, and health. As an industry first, this unique initiative seamlessly blended the magic of cinema with the joy of gastronomy—offering patrons an elevated experience that goes far beyond the big screen.
The star of the event was none other than Chef Smit Sagar, renowned culinary expert and jury member of MasterChef India Season 6, who curated and showcased a special F&B menu for Roongta Cinemas’ Surat location.
The highlight of the event was the unveiling of three signature dishes created exclusively for Roongta Cinemas:
Schezwan Salsa Bruschetta Khakhra
Korean Cheese Tikki
Orange Coffee Brew
These dishes, co-developed by Chef Smit in close alignment with the regional palate of Surat, focus on healthy, tasty snacking and conscious indulgence—making cinema munching not just delicious but thoughtful. These signature offerings will now be part of the regular menu at Roongta Cinemas Surat, enhancing the movie-watching experience for patrons who seek both entertainment and well-being.

The event saw a tremendous response from the community, with over 100 food enthusiasts attending from Surat and surrounding cities. A Best Dish Competition was held where more than 80% of attendees participated, presenting over 80 homemade dishes. The competition was judged by Chef Smit Sagar, Chef Sneha, and Chef Ushmaa, each bringing their own expertise to the panel. The top entries were honored in an emotional and inspiring award ceremony.
The Live Cooking event attracted people from all walks of life—professionals, home chefs, students, and seniors—all bound by their shared love for food. The lively atmosphere served as a beautiful reflection of Surat’s rich culinary spirit and Roongta Cinemas’ commitment to community-driven innovation.
Key leadership from Roongta Cinemas, including Mr. Sanjay Barjatya (CEO), Ms. Ishita Bhatnagar (VP – Sales & Marketing), and Mr. Sandeep Malusare (F&B Head), were present to welcome guests and personally oversee the experience.
