Vivaan settles for silver in Egypt

Gandhidham, November, 1 : Surat paddler Vivaan Dave had to settle for a silver medal in the under-11 boys’ category of the recently concluded WTT Youth Contender Table Tennis tournament held at the Cairo Stadium Indoor Halls Complex, Cairo, Egypt.

The India no. 5 Vivaan faced little threat from his opponents in the early rounds as he cruised into the semi-final without much ado. In the last-four encounter, however, the 11-year-old had to dig a little deeper to get past Lebanon’s Michel Abi Nader 3-1 (14-12, 11-5, 7-11, 13-11) and assure himself of a medal.

In the summit clash, Vivaan went down to Nigeria’s Matthew Kuti 3-1 (7-11, 11-7, 6-11, 6-11) to become Gujarat’s third paddler to bag a silver medal in this tournament.

Earlier, India no.2 Krisha Patel of Surat had won silver in the under-11 girls’ category and Ahmedabad’s Pratha Pawar too grabbed a silver in the under-13 girls’ event in Cairo.
